Addie Model by A S Zinita
Addie helps in the smooth and effective functioning of the teaching and learning process. Addie is a five stages process. The first phase is analyzing; the teacher must identify the learners, and the learner's need, the age, the time frame, and set the learning goals and the second stage, i.e., the design phase, the learning goals are transformed into clear learning objectives. The content is sequenced upon the techniques and strategies for teaching and learning. Later, in the development phase, additional information is provided. This will help students connect the content and the current happenings. In the implementation phase, situation is created and asked to find solutions by connecting the learned content. This will foster critical thinking among the students, which is an essential component of the learning process. In the last phase, evaluate feedback or quiz to determine if the learning objectives are achieved and check the effectiveness of strategies and techniques. If the outcome is not effective, changes must be made accordingly for the effective teaching and learning process.
“The Translation of the Bible and its relevance today in the life of the teachers”
by Panneer Selva Kumar.
Holy Bible played a significant role in bringing God from heaven to earth. It is the essence of Christianity and at the same time, it is not only for Catholics or Christians. But it is for all because the Bible means basic information before leaving earth. So what is its relevance today? I would say, every teacher should become a living bible. He or she should never take rest until good becomes better and the better becomes best. A good teacher is a person who goes to explore first and then persuades everyone to explore the same, so also a teacher who is a role model of Christ not only should remain as the transmitter of information or Knowledge but should go beyond in bringing transformation of the whole person. Of course today the knowledge is made universal through different ways and means. Knowledge without a teacher being inspirer is like hammering the cold iron. Therefore, every teacher takes the role of inspiring the students.
Story telling by Ruhina Taj
Long ago, teachers shared their knowledge with students without any PPT or boards and they learnt it. Story is something which everyone are interested in. When one listens to a story they not only listen carefully but also imagine it, this is one thing which will make the students to remember the content as they imagine it.
Story telling is one of the ways in which a teacher can grab the attention of the students in class. It Is helpful for students as well as teachers, for students it is helpful to retain the content and for teachers it is helpful to make the topic interesting and hold the attention of the students throughout the class hour. At times every thing cannot be taught in the form of story but revision or summary of the topic can be done in the form of story so that students can retain the gist of the topic atleast.
Different learning styles by Rebecca. S
Every student has their own way of learning style. A learning style refers to the potential way in which the students absorb, process, comprehend and retain the information given to them.
there are 7 different types of learning based on Howard gardner's multiple intelligence.
the 7 different learning styles are auditory, visual, verbal, logical, physical, interpersonal and intrapersonal.
How do engage all the different learning styles in a classroom?
For auditory learners the teacher can record the class for later reference, peer teaching and learning and most importantly making sure they are seated in a place away from any distraction.
For visual learners teachers can use colour codes, sketches, mind map, flow chart and diagram. taking down or making their own notes also help students who are visual learners.
for verbal learners we can allowed them to pure teach and talk about the concepts in class that will help them to retain the information.
for logical learners we can include a lot of statistics and classification so that they understand the concept better and easier.
for physical ok and aesthetic learners we can use props and different model to teach the lesson.
for interpersonal earn as we can include roleplay collaboration and group activities in a lesson plan.
for interpersonal learners we can engage them in class by providing them visual materials and other learning aids so they have enough information to learn on their own
it is not always easy to personalize lesson but using different and mixed learning approaches throughout the course work we can help cater to each type of learning style.
Topic: Social Constructivism by Arul Princy. J
Social constructivism, a social learning theory was developed by Russian psychologist Lev Vygotsky, posits that individuals are active participants in the creation of their own knowledge. Vygotsky believed that learning takes place primarily in social and cultural settings, rather than solely within the individual. The social constructivism theory focuses heavily upon dyads and small groups. For instance, students primarily learn through interactions with their peers, teachers, and parents, whereas teachers stimulate and facilitate conversation through harnessing the natural flow of conversation in the classroom. Social constructivism suggests that successful teaching and learning is heavily dependent on interpersonal interaction and discussion, with the primary focus on the students’ understanding of the discussion.
One of the core constructs of Vygotsky’s theory of social constructivism is the zone of proximal development (ZPD), which emphasizes the role of the instructor in an individual’s learning. The ZPD delineates the activities that a student can do without help, and the activities the student cannot do without the help of an instructor. The ZPD suggests that, with the help of an instructor, students are able to understand and master knowledge and skills that they would not be able to on their own. Once the students master a particular skill they are able to complete it independently. In this theory, the instructor plays an integral role in the students’ acquisition of knowledge, rather than serving as a passive figure.
Blended Learning by Trina Bhattacharya
Blended Learning is an approach to learning that combines online learning experiences and face to face learning experiences. Ideally both the online and offline learning experiences complement each other by using each other’s strength. This does not mean that an instructor will simply put up a chat room or upload lecture videos and call it a blended classroom. A successful blended classroom means that the technology and teaching should go hand in hand, i.e. it should inform each other. As a future Biology Teacher the ways in which I will implement Blended Learning in my classroom would be:
🔸For example If I am teaching Cell division, first I am going to introduce the topic and the concept using face to face learning with the help of textbooks, charts etc. Then I will take the help of YouTube videos to clarify the concept in a better way which would enhance the learning experiences since the videos would contain animations explaining the steps, the real life microscopic cell division videos. This in turn will help in engaging the students, grab their attention and also help in conceptual understanding.
🔸I may also divide the class in small groups and give them some activity in a face to face classroom, then ask the students to go back home, analyze their work and upload a self-reflection video about the task on the Google classroom link provided by me.
So these are some of the ways in which I can use Blended Learning in my classroom.
Blended Learning is becoming quite popular in higher educational institutes as well. Course Management systems like LMS and Blackboard are being widely used by both the professors and the students. It helps the students to track their assignments, upload or download study materials, interact with the professors.
To conclude, I would say that the biggest strength of Blended Learning is that helps in breaking the monotony of face to face learning or lecture method and instead makes the class more interactive. It transforms the transmissive method of teaching into an interactive one. Thus it has been seen in quite a number of studies that when face to face teaching is compared with blended learning, the success rate is much higher for Blended Learning.
Classroom Management - Treesa Thomas
It is necessary to know how to handle and organize the class to keep the students focused, attentive, and academically productive in the classroom.
First, allow students to establish classroom rules. At the beginning of the academic year; establish classroom policies that are suggested by students, so that there would be more acceptance than what the students are not supposed to do. Second, offer praise. Encourage and praise students for good work, which will improve their self-esteem, academic, and behavior performance. Third, allow students to take initiative and make short presentations to share in front of the class. Forth, use non-verbal communication such as compliment words with actions and visual aids to improve content delivery, process lessons, and keep students focused. And last, give tangible rewards to specific students at the end of each lesson who actively participated in the class, which acts as a motivation and behavior reinforcement technique.
SMART goals by Grace Naro
Using the SMART goal framework to work on issues that is important, will help and improve the likelihood of success. The acronym of SMART is:
•Specific (which,what,when,where,who, why)
•Measurable (how much/many)
•Achievable (describe action)
•Relevant (realistic/relevant to individual goal)
•Time-bound (by when)
According to educational research, teachers who set goals for themselves using SMART goals see significant changes in their classroom, as well as in their self-perception. Furthermore, at the end of school year, there will be a list of accomplishments to remind ourselves of how far we have come in one’s career.
